Start with a short base word — four to six letters — and add decoration only if there is room left.

Blackletter and small caps are the safest bets: they render correctly in the lobby, the kill feed and the leaderboard, and they stay readable at the tiny size a name appears in. A name that looks sharp in a browser at 24px can be unreadable at the size it appears above your character in a match.
